Themis Observations of Low-albedo Intracrater Materials and Wind Streaks in Western Arabia Terra

چکیده
Introduction: Thermal infrared day and night images (100m/pixel) from the Mars Odyssey Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS) are used for thermophysical and spectral analyses of low-albedo intracrater materials and wind streaks in Western Ara-bia Terra. THEMIS data are compared with Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) Thermal Emission Spectrometer (TES) derived surface compositions and Mars Or-biter Camera (MOC) observations to constrain origin hypotheses for these materials. Background: Western Arabia Terra has numerous impact craters with large low-albedo wind streaks emanating from dark " splotches " on crater floors (Fig. 1a: Radau Crater 17.1 o N, 4.8

Characteristics and Regional Distribution of Intracrater Layered Deposits in Arabia
Introduction: Exposures of layered materials on Mars are of significant interest because of their potential for yielding information on past geologic processes and environments [1-12]. Arabia Terra, an extensive region of cratered ancient highlands, has an abundance of light-toned layered deposits that are both intracrater and intercrater in nature [6,7]. Analysis of the western and southwester...
متن کاملAnalysis of surface compositions in the Oxia Palus region on Mars from Mars Global Surveyor Thermal Emission Spectrometer Observations
[1] We examine the distribution of Thermal Emission Spectrometer (TES) derived surface compositions in the Oxia Palus region on Mars through high-spatial-resolution mapping and integration with Mars Orbiter Camera and Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter data sets. We also fit the basalt and andesite-weathered basalt interpretations of TES surface type 1 and type 2 materials into multiple working hypot...
متن کاملMorphologic Observations of Chasma Boreale, Mars Using Moc, Themis, and Mola: Origins Revisted
Introduction: Chasma Boreale, a large reentrant in the martian North Pole, is distinct from other polar troughs by its large size and counterclockwise orientation [5]. The ~ 1300 m deep chasma extends for ~ 500 km from its proposed origin at 85° N, 2o E and is on average ~ 60 km wide. The head of the feature is marked by two major steep, arcuate scarps. Extending from the mouth of Chasma Boreal...
متن کاملAerosol Optical Depth Spatial and Temporal Variability Using Satellite Data Over Indian Major Cities
Introduction: The study’s main aim is to investigate the long-term variation of Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD). It also aims to show the relationship between meteorological parameters. This study evaluates long-term (2010 to 2021) special and temporal changes over major Indian regions using satellite-based data from NASA’s Terra Satellite. Materials and Methods: This study was carried out during ...
متن کاملThe role of Low level jet and determining the trajectory in the Persian Gulf dust storm (case study: 17-19 February, 2017)
Dust is a natural process in the desert areas. Strong winds on the dry soil surface make the particulate matter suspended in the air near the ground. In recent years, the influence of several natural factors has led to the further spread of dust in the western and southwestern parts of Iran. A storm take placed in the Khuzestan province and the northwest of the Persian Gulf, in February 17-19, ...
